The Plan

By Hank Rowland

Long ago, even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. And this gave him great pleasure. God’s secret plan has now been revealed to us; it is a plan centered on Christ, designed long ago according to His good pleasure. And this is His plan: At the right time he will bring everything under the authority of Christ – everything in heaven and on earth. Eph 1:3-10

God’s purpose was to show his wisdom in all its rich variety to all the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms. They will see this when Jews and Gentiles are joined together in his church. This was his plan from all eternity, and it has now been carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. Eph 3:10,11

Oh, what a wonderful God we have! How great are his riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his methods! For who can know what the Lord is thinking? Who knows enough to be his counselor? And who could ever give him so much that he would have to pay it back? For everything comes from him; everything exists by his power and is intended for his glory. To him be glory evermore. Amen! Rom 11:32-36

The Law of Moses could not save us, because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent His own Son in human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God destroyed sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the requirement of the law would be fully accomplished for us who no longer follow our sinful nature, but instead follow the Spirit. Rom 8:3-4

It was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and fill him with grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have a multitude of children and many heirs. When he sees all that he has accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of what he has experienced , my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. Isa 53:7-11

God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God, so no one can boast about it. Eph 2:8-9

And He chose those who are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God alone made it possible for you to be in Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made Christ to be wisdom itself. He is the one who made us acceptable to God. He made us pure and holy, and He gave Himself to purchase our freedom. 1 Cor 1:27&30

It is God who saved us and chose us to live a holy life. He did this not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan long before the world began. 2 Tim 1:9

For God knew his people in advance, and He chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn, with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him, and He gave them right standing with Himself, and He promised them His glory. Rom 8:29,30

God made Christ, who never sinned to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. 2 Cor 5:21

Because God’s children are human beings – made of flesh and blood – Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death. Heb 2:14

The Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil. 1 John 3:8

For in Christ, the fullness of God lives in the human body, and you are complete through your union with Christ. Col 2:10

What God wants is for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time. Heb 10:10

For by that one offering, He perfected forever all those whom he is making holy. Heb 10:14

The truth is no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven. John 3:5,6

The person who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. 1 Cor 6:17

How foolish the message of the cross sounds to those who are on the road to destruction. But we who are being saved recognize this message as the very power of God. 1 Cor 1:18

And this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. John 17:3

The fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again. 1 Cor 15:20

This includes you who were once so far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions, yet now he has brought you back as his friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand in it firmly. Col 1:21-23

When we became Christians and were baptized to become one with Christ Jesus, we died with Him. For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised as he was. When we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. Rom 6:3-7

We were restored to friendship with God by the death of His Son while we were still his enemies. Rom 5:10

He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose Him for this purpose long before the world began. 1 Pet 1:19,20

We have been crucified with Christ. We ourselves no longer live, but Christ lives in us. So we live our life in this earthly body by trusting the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for us. Gal 2:20

God is a spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth John 4:24

All honor to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for it is by his boundless mercy that God has given us the privilege of being born again. 1 Pet 1:3

For you have been born again. Your new life did not come from your earthly parents because the life they give will end in death. But this new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal living word of God. 1 Pet 1:23

You are a chosen people. You are a kingdom of priests. God’s holy people. His very own possession. 1 Pet 2:9

In His kindness God has called you to His eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 5:10

We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things He planned for us long ago. Eph 2:10

Since God chose you to be the holy people whom He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Col 3:12

Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? Will God? No! He is the one who has given us right standing with Himself. Rom 8:33

He has the right to pour out the riches of His glory upon those He prepared to be the objects of His mercy – even upon us, whom He selected. Rom 9:23

He will send forth his angels with the sound of a mighty trumpet blast, and they will gather together his chosen ones from the farthest ends of earth and heaven. Matt 24:31

Come you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Matt 25:34

Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead and the commander of all the rulers of the world. All praise to Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding His blood for us. He made us His kingdom and His priests who serve before God his Father. Give Him everlasting glory! He rules forever and ever! Amen! Rev 1:5,6

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God’s plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power
