The REALLY BIG Picture!

When one set out to write down a personal or organizational business or ministry plan, it is wise to first look at the big picture. So, let’s start with the REALLY BIG picture from the perspective of eternity.  The Prophet Isaiah wrote: In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings…

In Luke 4:16-30, when Jesus began his earthly ministry, he stood up in the synagogue in his home town and read the first part out of a passage written by Isaiah centuries before: The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the…

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be…

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (James 1:27 NIV) Pure and faultless religion, the lifestyle of those who bring glory to God, involves caring for those who are in distress. In the narrow sense, it includes children who have lost their parents and women who have lost their husbands. However, the distress of orphans and…

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV)

Roles and Goals

As we saw in the REALLY BIG picture, God intends to demonstrate his wisdom through the church. To do this he equipped people to build up the church. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 3:10-11 NIV) In order to build up his church, Christ gave leaders…

The method God has chosen for believers to help each other grow into maturity is discipleship. To grow as a disciple involves more than developing certain disciplines and acquiring essential knowledge. It includes working through life with all of its difficulties and pleasures. This progressive sanctification is done in community with other believers as we share the comfort they receive from the Lord himself. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Praise be…

At the end of his earthly ministry, Jesus commissioned his disciples. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew…
